Thyroid disorders
The thyroid is a small gland in the neck that helps to set the body’s pace, from energy to weight and temperature. When it produces too much or too little hormone, tiredness, weight changes, palpitations or mood changes can appear. Nodules are also common; most of the time they are not serious, but they deserve to be assessed. In the appointment we clarify the cause, decide whether treatment is needed, and I monitor how things develop.

Adrenal disorders
The adrenals are two small glands, sitting above the kidneys, that produce hormones that are important for coping with stress, regulating blood pressure and keeping the body in balance. Sometimes a change in these glands is found by chance on a scan done for another reason; at other times there are symptoms such as high blood pressure that is hard to control. In the appointment we investigate whether there is a hormonal problem and decide on the most appropriate follow-up or treatment.

Pituitary disorders
The pituitary is a pea-sized gland at the base of the brain that controls many of the body’s other glands. When it produces too much or too little hormone, it can cause a wide range of symptoms, such as changes in periods, fertility, growth or weight. Many of these situations are caused by small benign nodules. In the appointment we assess how your hormones are working, and I follow each case, working with other specialties when needed.

Bones, calcium and osteoporosis
The body’s calcium balance depends mainly on vitamin D and the parathyroids, small glands in the neck. Abnormal calcium in blood tests, low vitamin D or more fragile bones are common reasons for an appointment. Osteoporosis causes no symptoms until a fracture happens, so it is worth assessing it in good time. In the appointment we look for the causes, assess the risk and agree on the right prevention and treatment for each person.
